Delete ou which is protected




















Were you not able to delete it due to the Accidental Protection setting, or was it a matter of insufficient permissions? Sometimes, this can be an issue related to the accidental deletion feature, and that is easy to overcome.

However, if it is a permissions related issue, then its quite a pain, because its always a headache to try and troubleshoot insufficient permissions related issues. Glad to hear that it was the former, and not the latter.

I know this is very old, but I'm currently going through an old domain setup, and want to clean up before migrating to newer a OS, and I ran into the exact same issue.

I had no "Object" page where I could delete the OU. I even created a new OU and set it to be protected from deletion, and couldn't find any way to delete it afterwards.

Open Active Directory Users and Computers. Click View , and then click Advanced Features. First, clear permissions on the OU for which you want to remove protection. To do this, right-click the OU, and then click Properties. Second, clear permissions on the parent container of the OU for which you want to remove protection.

See some articles on RSAT here. Alternatively, you can also launch this from the Tools menu under Server Manager. I will first try to delete it without disabling the protection so you could see the kind of error it will prompt. Navigate to the OU that you want to delete, — Right-click on it and click on Properties. I hope you found this blog post helpful.
