The initiative will offer personalized information on car-free commutes and how to navigate them, providing help on how to use the bus and understand route maps. The program will determine the impact an educational initiative could have on the ways people commute in the downtown core. The goal of the program is to reduce car usage 8 percent to 10 percent among program participants. Of those surveyed, 43 percent said they would use TCAT more if they had clearer information, so Way2Go is working out a trip planner to help potential TCAT riders determine which bus to take.

Another 48 percent said they would bike more often if they felt safer on the streets, which could be a factor behind only 10 percent of the surveyed group who ride bikes. The group plans to get the word out through direct communication; so far, mailers have been sent throughout the downtown core, and online and social media will be used to make people aware. For visibility, the group plans to set up an office — in a parking space downtown — to get sign up participants.

Cycling on all walkways with no symbol is prohibited by municipal law and university regulations. Dismount zones are marked in heavily trafficked pedestrian areas red circle and slash over bike and rider.

Commuter bike paths also connect the campus to certain eastern residential areas. Interstate 86 intersects NY State Rt. Interstate 81 connects with NY State Rt. Ithaca Bike Rental offers a variety of bike styles to rent including adult, youth and tandem bikes, located at Stewart Park on the end of Cayuga Lake.

Reservations must be made at least 2 hours in advance. There are four municipal parking structures: one on Cayuga Street to the south of the Commons; one at the corner of Tioga and Seneca Streets; and one on Dryden Road in Collegetown. The Green Street garage is temporarily closed for reconstruction March through Fall The Dryden Road garage in Collegetown is billable every day of the week. Additionally, metered street parking surrounds The Commons.
