This player replaced my old audio processor, which could no longer handle the HD audio on newer blu-rays, and my old Panasonic blu-ray player which was great, but the Oppo is better for DVD.
I use the Oppo to decode audio to 5. There is a bit of noise hissing that is slightly audible in quieter passages so it's not an audiophile setup by any means, but it's good enough for me. The Oppo includes basic bass management speaker size, cros sover, distance but no on board equalizer or room correction. The is a solid performer. This is top notch, along with Oppo's support. They're still releasing firmware updates for this player, making it better, even after several years on the market and a new line of players above it. I had a Darbee unit already, so I didn't need the D. I planned on using HDMI, so didn't need the for it's superior analog output section. This unit is by far one of the best in image quality I've seen.
It's so good I've ran HDMI straight to the tv and not to my reciever which has a very good image enhancer. I run the sound through a digital rca and it's for a lack of a better term It's very easy to use and has plenty of advanced features for those who know their way around electronics setups.
