Obviously different people are going to form different opinions, but it interests me that I have seen so many different perspectives of the ending of this anime. So I was wondering what everyone's own thoughts are on the ending. Anyways here are my thoughts Mainly on one aspect of the ending : I always thought of the ending as a happy ending. Yes it not your typical predicatable happily ever after ending with the main heroine remaining a girl and finding true love.
But I think being happy as yourself in this case being a duck is what real happiness is. Often times we imagine ourselves as something else. In real life we don't always get to try out that different role. However since Princess Tutu is a fairy tale, Ahiru was given that chance. But in the end the fairy tale ended and Ahiru went back to being her true self,a duck. But there was nothing wrong with her being a duck. I mean look how much she accomplished in the last episode even as a duck.
If this is to be taken as the meta message, then write the story from the characters and not the characters from the story. This is Drosselmeyer's mistake when he focused on the tragedy and not how the characters change or alter the story.
To wrap up, using the story within a story mechanic for this anime enriches the question of fate and not merely aesthetic. I deeply appreciate this anime for not being a simple magical girl series. To understand why I enjoy this, here are the things I find cliched about magical girl series:.
I guess I am jaded with girly shows not having more depth or being more cute or marketable but this anime is my exception and recommendation in many ways despite the flaws. I have seen Puella Magi Madoka Magica which some depth but I prefer the overall meaning and package of this anime.
Princess tutu - breaking the story. The Story Guessing the story from the clues, it is a love story between the duck turned girl and the prince against the jealous crow princess that takes its cue from The Ugly Duckling and Swan Lake.
The First Act In a nutshell, this act introduces us to the collection mission of the duck, Ahiru, turned magical ballerina girl, Princess Tutu, into gathering the lost pieces of the Prince's heart, Mytho, who cannot feel any emotion.
The Second Act The story of the second act is where the story and more importantly the characters moves it beyond a magical girl anime to a great one. The overall theme of the anime is defying fate that we link with the characters. The Actors At first glance of this anime, I thought it is just another magical girl show. What let me push through despite the quacky animation, cliched use of the Nutcracker Suite is how strange the characters are setup in the beginning: The Prince without emotions Without it, it is just cliched amnesia.
What is weird is that he is being saved and not the other way around. He is a bland character by default since he has no emotion that is a play on the main hero cliche itself. The considerate Rival Antagonist are almost evil by default; Rue is a better rival as she merely loves the Prince and not a jerk to Ahiru that rich girls or rivals are commonly portrayed. The overprotective Knight Fakir is not a romantic interest yet shows strong protective feelings for the Prince.
This is a play on the sidekick where the trait should have gone to the love rival to make it cliche. In a sentence, he is making sure his hero-complex brother doesn't kill himself by constraining him, brotherly love indeed.
The story teller Why is there a separate narrator character? Rather, why is the narrator making plays instead of simply narrating? Title Discussion. Recent Watched Ignored Search Forum. What a great ending. As expected of a fairy tale ; I'd give this series a high rating, if it weren't for a streak of several boring, repetitive episodes in middle.
Kind of like I felt for Card Captor Sakura. Very, very well done overall story and characters and OMG-kind-of soundtrack.. Another plus for the ending.. I don't really like her. But I guess that wasn't possible Or maybe it was One way or another. And really touching. Not that I'm saying that I don't like Fakir The story took some unexpected turns but the ending was still very nice. Even with the repetative bits in the middle the show overall was very good.
Signature removed. This was a good ending, despite my dissagreeing of the sudden MythoxRue pairing. Mytho seemed to completely reject Ahiru. He basicly went: "You helped me a hell of a lot more than Rue, but I love her more for no good reason". Even though I adore FakirxAhiru, Mytho sorta went all "igorant".
I realy hope there is a sequel. The creator said she would realy like to make one. I wouldn't call it a complete rejection. While getting all the heart shards, Mytho was always confused about his feelings, so he probably never really understood his feelings for Tutu. I think he came to understand by the end, that it was always Rue who was with him all these years, and that she is truly devoted to him.
Mytho and Rue are two tragic characters looking for love, but destined for sacrifice. Fakiru and Duck are just as tragic with Duck fated to turn into a speck of light , as they were meant to lose from the very beginning. I'd call it good pairings, as each person understands their pair. It may be a fairy tale with a happy ending, but not one with a Disney-style "happily ever after.
I would just say that the fanbase isn't huge, rather than not being popular. DVD Collection. I wanted Ahiru to stay a human and get together with Fakir. But other than that, I thought it was a satisfying ending. One of the best endings ever.
This whole series had been great, it's been a long time since i last seen such unique anime. A very moving ending, and a very unique story from the Magicial Girl genre. An anime you should have watched because of its masterful storytelling, the wonderful use of the music from ballets. And of course the German words are also a good reason!
XD But the animation could have been a bit better, some dance scenes would have been much better if they were fully animated. Loved it. The ending was great too. Personally really I liked how the pairings ended up :D I wanted Ahiru to stay human though I didn't mind Mytho ending up with Rue at all because him being with Ahiru always felt wrong somehow. Or maybe I just liked Fakir better. Great episode! Very touching ending to a great series! I just finished the princess tutu episode 26 or final becuase on youtube episode 26 is the final..
You did finish it. I did want Ahiru to stay a girl at first because I'm such a Fakir x Ahiru fangirl but now I realize that the way it ended was best. After all, a duck is what she really is and Fakir doesn't seem to mind that she's a duck. Well, it seems everyone gets a happy ending even Neko-sensei!
I'm glad Drosselmeyer didn't turn out to be one of those types of villains, though I am wondering how he's still alive at the end.
I kind of wish we got to see a bit more of the characters at the end, especially Mytho since he had just gotten his heart back and his personality had changed for the last time. Rushing forward to the Prince, Ahiru is then beaten by the crows whilst a writing Fakir writes on in horror. Falling to the ground, Ahiru despairs whilst Drosselmeyer watches with glee.
Mytho raises the sword to his own heart in an attempt to break it in order to seal the raven once again, vowing he will save Rue when he has his heart once again restored to him. At this Ahiru runs forward crying against it and begins to dance. With Fakir lending Ahiru his power, she dances in order to turn the townsfolk back to normal. Seeing this, Mytho refuses to give up and goes on to battle the Raven.
The Raven sends the townsfolk in his control to attack Ahiru who is thrown about until falling motionless onto the floor.
Despite this, she refuses to give up and rises up to begin dancing once again. Seeing this and strengthened by it, Mytho calls forth Rue from the Raven and rescues her. The two together wield the sword and slay the Raven whilst Ahiru who is watching on finally collapses.
